The Perfect Pointe Book

All The Tips, Tricks And Exercises You Need To Know About Starting En Pointe

How Do You Tell When A Girl Is Ready For Pointe Work?

It is one of the most often asked questions in ballet, yet one to which there has not really been one definitive answer; “How do I know when I (or one of my students) am ready for pointe work?” Young girls dream of their first pair of pointe shoes for years before they will be allowed to get into them, and, until now, it has basically been up to the teacher to decide when each student makes the transition.
This has lead to many girls being allowed up too early, to “keep up with their class”, often resulting in chronic foot injuries that may plague even the most competent dancer throughout their career, or even permanent damage. Due to the variability in growth rates of girls in the 11 – 14 year age group (when moist girls start en pointe) and the lack of complete closure of many of the growth plates in the feet until at least 16 – 18 years of age, strength of the feet and ankles is a huge factor in preventing injury when progressing to toe shoes.
In Australia, many dance teachers have realised the importance of getting each girl individually assessed prior to going onto pointe. The ‘best dancer’ within a class may not necessarily have the strongest feet, and many weakness can be hidden inside regular ballet slippers. They advise each girl to undertake an assessment with a Special Dance Physical Therapist, who will perform screening tests that take much of the responsibility off the dance teacher in deciding who is able to go onto pointe and when. Following an initial assessment, special strengthening and mobility exercises are taught to strengthen any weaknesses in the dancers feet, ankles, hips and core muscles, to help the girls cope with the demands of pointe work.
A Dance Physical Therapist will see hundreds of girls each year for such assessments. The teachers find the resulting written reports on each girl extremely helpful for tailoring corrections in class, and all note the dramatic improvement in the girls overall approach to dance, both technically, and energetically, once they have their assessment, and have specific goals to work towards.
As there is a limited number of dancers a therapist can see day to day, and due to the enormous global interest in Ballet, a program was developed that made this process available to the world. It is based around 4 stages, each with clearly described tests to assess each girls current strength and mobility, explanations of what any weaknesses may mean, and programs of specific exercises to help improve all the highlighted areas. Once a girl can correctly perform all of the tests in each stage (each has a check-list to ensure that they are performed correctly) she should be strong enough to commence pointe work under the guidance of a qualified teacher. All of the tests and exercises are clearly demonstrated with clear photographs of both the correct and incorrect positions.
“The Perfect Pointe Book” is the essential companion to any dancer, either aspiring to progress to toe shoes, or already en pointe, and is an excellent resource for teachers of pointe work.

hi, my name is olivia, i am 12 years old. i am wondering if you could help me decide weather or not to ask my teacher about starting en pointe.

when i was 3 years old i started ballet lessons and continued them for 3 or 4 years, then when i was in kindergarten i started taking modern classes and i am still taking them (i am in 7th grade now) over the summers between 5th and 6th grade and between 6th and 7th grade i took ballet classes all summer. now i am taking 2 modern classes a week and 2 pre-pointe classes a week. i am 58 inches tall and weigh about 80 pounds. i have very strong calfs and i think i have strong ankles too. in my pre-pointe class there is only one other girl who has not started pointe.

do you think that i am ready for pointe? if not can you tell me some execercises that i can do to prepair?

thanks so much!

Hi Olivia, My name is Tarra. I am a ballet instructor. I don’t know if you are ready for pointe, for I’ve never seen your technique or strength ect. But to stop the worries I would suggest asking your ballet teacher when you may be ready for pointe work. That extra modern work because that’s going to strengthen your body so much. GOOD LUCK! Tarra D.

  Lucia wrote @

Well, one of the ways is actually by seeing if you can balance on the balls of your feet for 10-15 seconds or 20, and you have to have strong cab muscles. Hope that helped ;]

Hi Olivia, I’m in the exact position as you! Bit when I asked my teacher she said that she wants to make sure I’m 100% strong enough! Or I’ll end up in a wheel chair by early ages!
Hoped this helped and made you feel a little hit better about the situation we are in

You have to have confidence in your self, make sure you don’t stress yourself, if you think the time has come to be on pointe, definitely just work hard in class. Don’t ask your teacher if you should go on pointe, you want her to tell you, I’m sure your teacher knows the right time.

My previous teacher told me I was ready to begin pointe, but kn new teacher is telling me I can’t. Why is that? How do I know if I’m really ready or not? Please help me. Thanks.

  Annie wrote @

Hi Kyra, My nam eis Annie and I am a student as well but i am in Intermidiete… I had the same problem as well… So I went to my dance teacher and explained the situation… She said that she will need to test me first to see if I am able to cope with the load of pointe work… I did.. You can do that too.. Tell your teacher that you might be ready for pointe work because your last teacher said you are… If you don’t pass the categories its all fine… The teacher nkows what you are doing and she wil make it a lot easier for you if you fail… So dont worry.. Your in a Win-Win situation here

Hope this helped… Annie

Emily: I am pretty much in the same situation as you. I’m 13, and I’ve taken dance for most of my life, but only for fun. About two weeks ago I started to take ballet seriously, and I’ve been strengthening my ankles a lot. I really want to be able to go en pointe ASAP, so this upcoming year I’m going to be doing ballet intensively (going to a studio, and basically eat, sleep, breathe and live ballet). And at the beginning of the year I’m going to tell my dance teacher that I want to go en pointe and to critique me as much as possible. Maybe after this upcoming year my teacher will say that I can go en pointe. I hope so!!! 🙂

That is so great that you’ve started dance! However, it can take at least up to 6 or 7 years of ballet to begin pointe work, even if you are strong. I suggest keeping up with dance and don’t stop, and your 13, so that is a good prime age. Honestly, you can really never tell when, I had a student that went on pointe at 15 and one at 11. GOOD LUCK! Keep Dancing!

I am 12 years old, and I have been taking ballet since I was 2 years old. The only point where I stopped was between when I was 10 and when I was turning 12. I am taking two ballet/pointe classes a week. These classes prepare you for pointe if you are not already en pointe. I really want to get en pointe soon. There about half the class is already en pointe and I really wish I was too. I asked my teacher what it takes to go en pointe, and she said the growth plates in my feet must be done growing, I have to have taken 2 years of dance, and I have to pass the pointe evaluation. The pointe evaluation is basically a test to make sure you are ready for pointe. Unlike many other girls I don’t know If I have strong ankles, or a core, I don’t know how good I am. My mom believes in me and says she thinks I will be en pointe by January, But I’m not so sure. I take many other classes too, at the same studio. I take Lyrical, Musical Theater, Acro, Jazz, and Modern. Please if there is any way you can help prepare me that would be great, I really want to be en pointe by January.

Thank you so much!!!

Hey.
My name is Katie and I want to know if I am ready to be en pointe.
I took dance lessons for two years when I was five and six and then my mother took me out because she thought I’d stopped paying attention in classes.
I begged her to put me back in classes when I was about ten years old and now that I’m almost 13 I’ve been in classes for almost a full 3 years. I’m in grade 3 ballet (Go figure) and most of the girls in my class are way youner than me. I’m pretty sure I’m the strongest in my class. I’ve already started demi-pointe, but so has all of the people in my class.
My teacher says that if I pass this years exames with “Honours” and if she thinks my feet are strong enough I can start En Pointe.
I’m getting an excersise band that I use to stretch my toes but is there any other excersizes that I can use to make me stronger?? And also I’m a little bit overweight… There are some overweight dancers on toe at my school but, are there any tecniques that dancers use to be thinner??

I am 12 years old, but will be 13 im March and have been told that i am going on pointe a few times in the past, however it did not happen and i started getting really frustrated with myself and upset. I have been doing ballet since i was 2years so that means i have been doing it for 10 years nearly 11. I am 145 cm tall and weigh 6 stone. I have quite bad feet though as they are nearly flat, even though I do try to make them better by using the arch rollers, they are still very strong though. I am the youngest in my ballet class as the oldest is 17!And I am the only one not on pointe. My teacher told me that I might be able to go on pointe after easter. What can I do to to prove to her that I am ready now?
Do you think I am ready now?
Thanks, Lizziee xx

  Annie wrote @

Look Lizzie, My name is Annie And I am passed the intermidiet grade so I know this subject quite well… First of all in your ballet slippers, walk around your house on a high demi-point… This will try make your arch… When sitting or in bed, flex your toes and point them out and in… and do releves in 5th as often as you can… It is good to know that your feet are strong so you dont have to do additional excercises… You dont need to prove to your teacher that you can go en pointe.. She will know when you are ready.. Don’t worry.. If you really love to dance and you follow the techniques i just told you.. Then you would possibly get your pointes in 2-3 weeks but you have to do these excercise 6-7 days a week.. Okk
?

Hope this Helped, Annie

I can tell you right now, without seeing you, that you are not ready to be en pointe. Your bones are not set properly yet. I knew girl who was so talented and she was put en pointe at 9. She is 12 now and has very crippled feet. She can no longer dance because her teacher wanted her en pointe for bragging rights. That poor girl is crippled now. Wait till you are 11 before asking. I hope your teacher won’t put you en pointe at 10. Good luck.

  Zoë wrote @

9 is too early as the growth plates and bones in the feet are still soft, in putting someone who has not fully developed yet on pointe there’s a higher risk of injury and your daughter would not be able to dance again. She’d also get deformities in her feet. You should wait until she is 11.

I want to be able to go en pointe, but idk if i would be ready with out the help of a profeshional teatcher. and i cant take classes because it’s too expensive. What do i do???

  Alexis wrote @

hi im alexis well for now you go on youtube and look up ballet exsercises then save up to take ballet classes i know what you mean it is a bit expensive.): but i think you have to go to a teacher to see if your ready for pointe and a doctor.

  catthedancer wrote @

you really, really, really mustn’t go on pointe without a teacher

i don’t want to nag and i know that it’s probably too late now but it is really dangerous to go up without being told by a teacher that you are ready

you might not be strong enough which could make you fall or damage the bones in your feet or hurt your ankles

if going on pointe is your dream then you have to take proper ballet classes

hope you get a chance to go en pointe 🙂

  Dance4lyfe wrote @

First off you need to be older than 11
Second you cant go en pointe until you have at least 2 years of training three is even better fourth is your legs arent strong you wont be able to hold your self up try this then it will help you get a better idea whether or not you can go en pointe
1. Can you do 16 relevaes in a row with out stopping.
2. Can you hold a passe.
3. Age ( are older than eleven)
4. Are you emotionally ready
(are you willing to have pain in you feet)
5. You should take at least 3.5 hrs of ballet per week for a motnth before you start.
6. You MUST have strong ankles!
7. You have to have good tecnique.

Hope this helped 🙂

  Rose wrote @

PLEASE don’t go en pointe. It is extremely dangerous for your feet to go en pointe when you haven’t taken official ballet or pre pointe classes.

Hi my name is Brianna and Im 12 years old. I am not on pointe yet, but soon I want to be! I have a quick question to ask- I do not know how to do the splits yet, but do you have to know how to be on pointe. Could you PLEASE tell me some other things besides how old you have to be or how strong your legs are to be on pointe. I want to know besides allllllllll that!!

  catthedancer wrote @

don’t worry, doing the splits is about having flexibility more than strength and going on pointe is more to do with strength (and of course basic turnout etc.) but if you are ready then not being able to do the splits shouldn’t stop you

Hi, my name is Lidia and im going to be 13 ina month. I’ve been ding ballet for about six years ( once a week for an hour or so). I really want to be able to dance en pointe but im not sure if im ready. I have strong feet and can stay on demi-pointe for close to 20 minutes. When do you guys think i’ll be ready to dance en pointe???
P.S. I also took jazz- hip hop for a year.

Hi im alexis i took ballet since was 3 im 12 now this year i missed half of the my intermidiate class so i had take int.1 and pre int. my teacher said i have 2 stand on high enough to get on pointe how high should i be?

  Alannah wrote @

Hi, my name is Alannah, I am starting ballet classes on this Thursday, I was wondering if anyone could give me some exercises or a time frame of when I will be able to dance on pointe, I have been wanting this for quite some time now, I have strong ankles and calfs thanks to karate. And I have been told by Encore, and by close friend that has her heart set on pointe that I’d be great at it, just wondering from somone who’s a little more experienced with dance
Thanks,
Alannah

  catthedancer wrote @

well before you can start pointe you need to have a good grasp of basic ballet technique otherwise you won’t be able to understand turnout or other concepts when you are on pointe

another problem is that the muscle you use for karate could be very different to the ones a dancer needs to hold herself on pointe

it also depends what age you are as if you are too young then no dance teacher would let you go on pointe lest you damage your feet
but if you are old enough and have the strength needed and you practice a lot to work on your technique then there is no reason why you couldn’t get onto pointe

i would give ballet classes a month or two to see if you enjoy ballet itself as going on pointe requires a lot of determination and you must love ballet to do it, you may also have to do ballet for a number of years before you make it to pointe
if you do love ballet then you should speak to your teacher and ask for her advice on things that you could do to get onto pointe

good luck 🙂

hey lucy
you’re just like me, i started ballet when i was 13 and i didn’t think that i’d ever make it to pointe but i’ve been on pointe for over a year now
i got my pointe shoes quite soon after starting but i had a bit of an advantage as i had done highland dancing for about 5 years beforehand which meant that my legs were very strong and i had a basic grasp of the technique
all i can say is to keep on practising and getting better at your ballet, do barre exercises everyday and find some strengthening exercises for your ankles and legs
maybe you could talk to your teacher and see if she has any advice?

good luck 🙂

now I’m 13 ,and they even moved me up a level because they thought i was ready since i practiced a LOT!!

i hope your pointe shoe dream will come true! just ask your teachers lots of questions and be really interested of what there saying.

Hi, my names Lily and id just like to say to all of u that ur teacher will tel u wen ur ready. it doesn’t matter on how good u r, it matters on what type of foot u hav, this is in the pre-pointe book, and how strong ur ankles r. It helps if u hav a large arch and flexible feet to get them strong enough for pointe. And please, if u dont do ballet u are defiantly not ready for pointe as it takes years of pratice and u will badly hurt urself.

  Lily wrote @

Also, don’t use therabands without standing on ur foot as it can badly damage ur foot, all of this information is in the pre-pointe book and it has really helped me get in pointe!!

It might not be good for you to go on pointe yet.im twelve and I have had ten yrs of dance experience and I’m in ballet three for two hours each Friday .im not sure about your studio but if it is crowded that could be why you don’t get on pointe till ur older

  catthedancer wrote @

I can understand how much you want to go en pointe and there is nothing wrong with asking your teacher about it. Sadly you are probably going to have to wait a bit longer. As you are still young, the bones in your feet won’t have probably formed yet and dancing en pointe on those fragile bones can be extremely dangerous and cause a life time of problems for your feet. Most doctors, teachers and professionals recommend that girls don’t start pointe work until they are 12 years old. Don’t give up though, keep practicing and getting stronger and one day you will be able make it to pointe 🙂

  :-Dancer for Lyfe wrote @

I am 11 and almost all the girls in my class are starting pointe my dance teacher told me first out of all my class that I could go on pointe and that i am strong enough for sure and technique wise i am ready but my bones arent ready so I am going next summer. I am really upset! Since its a year away do you recommend demi pointe shoes? It will be better for my feet that I don’t go on too early. So in the meantime do you think demi pointe shoes will help a bit?

  keely wrote @

hi my regular dance teacher isnt really a ballet teacher and so i have another pointe work teacher but she says i have to go on demi point b4 i go straight onto point but all other dance schools go on point straight away btw im 11

  catthedancer wrote @

Some schools like to do demi pointe before starting pointe as it helps strengthen your feet and legs and makes the transition en pointe easier. Like “maddyaboutballet” you are still quite young to be starting pointe, although obviously everyone’s feet are different, so that may be another reason why your teacher wants to do demi pointe first. To give your bones a chance to strengthen whilst still allowing you to start the progression onto pointe. I hope you do get en pointe soon, but even if you have to wait, remember that is only to make things easier for you and to make you a better dancer for when you go en pointe 🙂

  keely wrote @

i also do excerises that my technique teacher gave me so i think im ready she said soon

Demi pointe shoes can help you to strengthen your feet in preparation for pointe work and they might help you. The best thing you can do is to talk to your teacher about what she recommends. Good luck 🙂

  Nicole wrote @

Yes ask your teacher after the lesson or before. But improve those releves, to improve your Demi pointe make up a routine that ONLY includes you on Demi pointe. Don’t attempt pointe with this exercise. You are ready for pointe

  hayley wrote @

oops thts about 4 lbs not 10 ( 10 lbs in a week or 2)

  catthedancer wrote @

Hey Hayley,
Well firstly don’t worry about how heavy you are, it can be quite daunting when you are faced with extremely thin dancers as your role models but as long as you eat healthily, and are active you will be fine 🙂 Though you must not let the other girls in your class put you off your dream, I don’t think now is the time to ask about going en pointe. There is nothing wrong with talking to your teacher about it but she will probably (and she should) tell you that you are still too young. No matter how strong you are or how good your technique is, the bones in your feet are still growing and dancing on them could damage you for life. Keep dancing and in a year or two those shoes will be yours 🙂

  hayley wrote @

  catthedancer wrote @

HI, well some people’s feet can mature quicker than others or those girls might be going en pointe without their teacher’s permission which isn’t a good idea. So yes, if you really want to ask then go ahead, it’s a good idea even if it just shows your dance teacher that you will be dedicated enough to go en pointe 🙂 and that it is something you really want to do.

I spoke to my teacher about pointe because she said i was ready i am going to start next summer but i wanted to know if there was anything good to use to prepare 4 pointe ;-D

  catthedancer wrote @

That’s really good 🙂 well you need to make sure that your technique is neat and that you are able to hold your turnout well because if there are a few wee niggles they will make pointe work much harder. Apart from that there is not much else you can do, maybe read a book or ask your teacher if she suggests any strengthening exercises for you 🙂

  Nicole wrote @

Yes! Definitely do some prances on Demi pointe. Then do this exercise releve, echappe stretch bend. Keep doping this so your ankles strengthen as well as your feet. Male sure when doing this you full your self right up to that Demi pointe. Example snap up!
Thanks

Now I’m 13 (turning 14 in Feb. 2012) and I take one ballet class 45 min. each week. I was told that I have a natural grace and flow and that if I didn’t stop I would have been on pointe by now. The things is that, I don’t really know how long it will take me to regain my knowledge and strength for me to get on pointe. Also, when I stand in Passé, I always think I’m Sickling my heel, and I can never full stand and balance in a Passé on Relevé. Is that a result of my ankles?? Thanks!!

Well it takes years to practice you’ve only had 4 months training right? Well when I was 2 years before starting pointe (10) I was really excited to be going en pointe. But I’ve had 10 years of training I started when I was 3. So show your teacher what you’ve got. Every time you do a batment tendu go through your Demi pointe. Even though you have strong ankles there is a possibility that you may have an injury because pointe takes practice and care. Tell your teacher about this. DON’T RUSH THROUGH THIS!!! Because if your teacher wants you to wait a few more months it will be hard bit trust in your teacher.

Hi my names Claire and I’m 12. I take 5 classes a week – tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and technique. I started dancing when i was 4 (8 years total). I started ballet in September and suddenly wanted to be on pointe. My feet and ankles are pretty strong from tap and swim team, and I can hold my balances for a really long time. When do you think I will be ready for pointe?

  Marie wrote @

wow, you sound ready to go! Just talk to your ballet teacher, I’d say yeah you sound ready but always ALWAYS check with your teacher.

Hi! I was just wondering, why do my knee caps hurt every time I do plies in ballet? I’m pretty sure I’m turning out the right way. I’m sort of scared to ask my teacher about it, so does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
~Claire

  audrey wrote @

that sometimes happens to me. my knees start popping and i felt like i needed to go more slow in my plies so i went slower not so fast and my knees haven’t popped since. So try going slower on your plies. 🙂

  Sarah wrote @

I have the same problem as you. The reason why it’s hurting is because you are pronating on your feet, which means that you are rolling forward over the arches of your feet. This can cause lots of knee problems for when you grow up. Try to balance your weight equally on both feet when you plié. It definitely works for me!

hi i was just wondering how long it will take for me to get en pointe, im 15 and start ballet next term, however i have really strong ankles, i can walk on the balls of my feet all day without wobbling (no lie, up until the age of 10 i thought that was how you were ment to walk because i did ballet from 3-9 years old) so im good doing stuff like that, to be honest i know some of the basic moves, so it shouldnt take that long right??? or will it???

  audrey wrote @

well it kind of depends. because your like me my teacher that my feet are perfect for pointe but she said i cant get on pointe yet because i need to know and understand more about ballet so i don’t know it just matters how hard you work. 🙂

  shashii mills wrote @

hmm… hope it doesnt take too long, im 15 so dont want to start pointe to late :/ i’ll just mega-revise all of the moves lol 🙂
hope you go en pointe soon 😀

  Yuliana wrote @

Hi, i just wanted to ask a couple of questions. The first one is: why do my knees really hurt when i bend them? And the second one is how long does it usually take to get on pointe.

  audrey wrote @

well you can start on going slower on your plies it might help. if it doesn’t then ask your teacher. and it kind of depends when you go en pointe shoes. i asked my teacher when i can go on pointe shoes, so maybe ask your teacher and maybe she will tell you stuff you need to work on, tell me what she says. 🙂

  Yuliana wrote @

Do you have to be flexible to go on pointe?

  Yuliana wrote @

My teacher said that each year they check all of the students feet to see if their ready. i don’t know weather my feet are strong enough but im hoping for the best! 🙂

Hi! I am 12 years old (almost 13) I had just gotten my pointe letter which says that my dance teachers think I am ready to go on pointe. I have just went to the podiatrist who was supposed to check to see if my growth plates are fully grown, they are not 😦 There are other girls who are 8 years old who are going on pointe! And the podiatrist said I would have to wait 6-12 months to see if there grown! I will most likely quit dance by then! Do I really need to have my growth plates grown? Please any advise would help.
Thanks

  Lani wrote @

Hey my name is Lani and NEVER quit I did and I have regretted it ever since!!!!!

  RADinstructor wrote @

No,
Your growth plates don’t NEED to be fully grown BUT it may be at risk of injury. Try another podiatrist. You always need a second opinion!

  Iuliania wrote @

Well, there is nothing you can really do and if you are likely to quit dance in 6-12 months, ther is really no point trying to get pointe shoes cause they are quite expensive and your time will be wasted while trying to find the right pair. If you go on pointe shoes while your plates are not fully formed you are most likely going to damage your feet really badly.

try and be more patient,

Well I haven’t seen your technique or your posture, but I would definitely get checked by your dance teachers for their approval. One way to strengthen your feet is to do thera-band exercises. These really strengthen and improve your flexibility in your feet. I hope this helps!

Hello, I am 16 years old, did ballet for 5 years from ages 5 – 9, but just last last year i went back into ballet. This is now my second year back in RAD ballet and have just gotten the ok to take the Grade 4 exam and go into Grade 5. I have lowerish arches and sometimes my feet roll in a bit when trying to achieve a good turnout. Are there any good exercises to improve my arches and to prevent rolling? I am seeing a physiotherapist right now, but it doesn’t seem to be helping much yet.

Also, when do you think I could be able to go on pointe? It has always been my dream since a was a child to go on pointe and would like to go on pointe hopefully before I get too heavily involved in university (I am in Grade 11 in school right now).

I would be so very grateful for an answer,

Thank you!

Hi,
Depending on your foot strengths is the time to start. Also usually pointe work doesn’t start untill intermediate foundation. But if you have strong feet then you will start grade 5.
Hope this helps!

Hi, I am Rose.
I am 11 years old and have been doing ballet since I was 4. I’ve been moving alot so I had to skip about a year of ballet when I was 8 or 9. I have been dreaming of getting my first pointe shoes since I started dancing. I now am in level three along with many other girls my age and take two classes every week and 1 modern class a week. Over the summer I will take ballet and in the fall my teacher said I may begin pre pointe work in level 4 which is 3 or 4 classes a week. I have strong ankles and calfes and can hold a passe for 18 seconds. Both of my parents and my teacher have been saying that they’ve been seeing great improvement in my posture, turnout, balance, and overall basic skills. What I’m wondering is if I could begin pointe in ballet 4. I feel confident and my teacher says that some girls start pointe in ballet 4. Is 11 too young to go en pointe? Please help me. My dream has always been to go en pointe. Thanks for reading and please send me a reply. 🙂 🙂
P.S. I am 54 inches tall and weigh 77 punds. Is that a good size for a pointe dancer?

  catthedancer wrote @

It sounds like your dream is getting really close to coming true 🙂 11 can sometimes be too young to start pointe, mainly because everyone varies in development and in some people the bones in their feet might not be strong enough when they are still this age. Even if you have to take pre pointe classes for a while until your teacher thinks you’re completely ready this will just make sure you don’t get injured and can be the best dancer on pointe that you can be 🙂 also, there is no right or wrong size for a dancer as long as you are healthy happy anyone of any height or weight can be a dancer as long they have the correct strength and technique so shouldn’t need to worry about that 🙂

  Rose wrote @

Thank you SO much for the reply. It really means a lot to me. I hope your right about my dreams coming true! 🙂 If I feel ready I’m probably going to ask my teacher when I’m at least 12. I don’t want to push my body too much because I know that that wouldn’t help my chances of being a pointe dancer. If I get offered pointe shoes when I’m 11 I definitely won’t turn it down. Once again THANK YOU so much for the reply. 🙂

I’m no professional at this so let’s see if my answer is good enough for you:
Somebody else wrote to me that 11 can sometimes be too young because of foot development and growth and because the bones in your feet might not be ready. If you feel capable then you should ask your teacher about pre pointe classes. Things to consider would be is my posture good, is my turnout good, am I balanced?, and maybe how strong are my ankles and calfs? If you don’t feel ready then don’t do it quite yet. Wait till you feel comfortable and experienced enough.

Hope this helped!:) 🙂

Before going on pointe it would be wise to start taking demi pointe classes first. 2 years may or may not be long enough for pointe. ask yourself, how’s my posture, turnout, balance , and are my ankles and calves strong enough? If your really good then ask your teacher if you will be moving up to the next ballet level soon. Tell me how it goes!

Hope this helped 🙂 🙂

I have been doing dance since 2005. I had to take a break this past year because my studio closed. 😦 But that is seven years of dance. We didn’t do ballet exactly, but we did lyrical, jazz, and tap. I think pointe is beautiful. I want to do it at the new studio I am going to, and I was wondering if even though I didn’t do ballet, I did the other three, would that count for anything to start pointe?

  audrey wrote @

ummm not necessarily, just cause you have been doing dance for a long time doesn’t mean u can go on pointe especially if u haven’t even done ballet. It just matters if your ankles and feet are strong. If they are you should ask your teacher about it! 🙂

Yes… I just wanted to know if all that seven years of dancing counted for ANYTHING. Or if it was a total waste. I only really started liking pointe work last week. Thanks please reply!

  rose wrote @

For strengthening your feet, point you toes! When you eat, when you are watching t.v., on the computer, in school, about to go to sleep…point those toes! I have started doing it for about a week now and it gets easier. At first it you may not be able to keep them pointed long (cramps) but after a while you will be able to point them for very long periods of time (after a week I can point them for 20 mins without cramps). Remember to keep pointing until they start to burn (that means the muscle is working and strengthening).

For the ankles, stand on the edge of stair or a large phonebook so your heels hang off. Rise to your fullest demi point and then drop down as far as your heels will go. Do 30 of these releves very slowly (it hurts more and works more) then do a deep plie. Do 3 sets of the 30 releves. Once 30 is easy, up it to 50, then 75, then 100. Or try uping the sets instead of number of releves. Like 6 sets of 30 releves (ouch!).

Also, buy a theraband (or exercise band), wrap it around one foot, point and roll through demi to flex. Do this 15-30 times per foot. You can also tie the band around your feet and do releves. Like tie it around your feet (not to tight or it will snap!) stand in first and do 15-30 releves. Then do the rest of the positions.

You can usually tell if someone can stand on releve in all positions for 30 seconds at the least that their ankles are strong. Especially if they can go on releve with one foot in coupe. While they dance, their ankles shouldn’t wobble at all.

Hope this helps, have a nice day!!

🙂

  audrey wrote @

oh. and no but i did get a half size to small because i ordered them online and they fit but i didn’t have toe pads yet so i wore them around the house and they got dirty so i couldn’t return, them but my teacher said it wont hurt to where them. So i wore them and my heel hurts sometimes but its not throbbing pain so its all good. 🙂

Hi my name is Avery and I have taken ballet for about two years and my ballet teacher asked me if I wanted to do the pre-pointe class. Of course I said yes but I think I am quite ready for pointe. I have strong muscles in my legs and calfs and my ankles but I’m not sure how to tell my teacher. I haven’t even started the pre pointe class but it seems pretty easy. I am also 11 years old and I start dance in the end of September. I am super flexible too! Any help is appreciated!!!

  mmccreanor wrote @

Hi Avery!
I recommend pre pointe. Because your not 12 yet the muscles and bones in your feet havent reached their full growth yet. Pre pointe isn’t easy when you try it. Remember this is all from experience as I will be auditioning for the Australian ballet. If you are really desperate I reccommend DEMI pointe shoes.
Good luck

Hi My name is “john” just want to share my experience with the world on how i got my love back and saved my marriage… I was married for 7years with 2kids and we lived happily until things started getting ugly and we had fights and arguments almost every time… it got worse at a point that she filed for divorce… I tried my best to make her change her mind & stay with me cause i loved her with all my heart and didn’t want to loose her but everything just didn’t work out… she moved out of the house and still went ahead to file for divorce… I pleaded and tried everything but still nothing worked. The breakthrough came when someone introduced me to this wonderful, great spell caster who eventually helped me out… I have never been a fan of things like this but just decided to try reluctantly cause I was desperate and left with no choice… He did special prayers and used roots and herbs… Within 7 days she called me and was sorry for all the emotional trauma she had cost me, moved back to the house and we continue to live happily, the kids are happy too and we are expecting our third child. I have introduced him to a lot of couples with problems across the world and they have had good news… Just thought I should share my experience cause I strongly believe someone out there need’s it… You can email him via ekpensolutionspellcasting@gmail.com Don’t give up just yet, the different between “Ordinary” & “Extra-Ordinary” is the “Extra” so make extra effort to save your marriage/relationship if it’s truly worth it.

Hi, I’m starting ballet this dance semester. I really love watching ballet and I’ve loved being on pointe in my friend’s pointe shoes. I was wondering when is the soonest amount of time that I (a 12 year old girl who hasn’t taken ballet before) could go on pointe? Thank you!

  Quilla wrote @

It’s not very safe to use your friends pointe shoes before your ready, if they don’t fit perfectly you can seriously damage your feet. Just a word of caution 🙂

  Lene Kennington wrote @

I would say you would want to wait at least 2 years to develop technique skill and strength but after you have been doing classes for a while ask your teacher what they think as they should then know what your feet and ankles are like!
Ps I went on point age 12 having done ballet since age 4 and was preparing (hinting to my teacher that I wanted to go on point) for around 6 months.

  Rose wrote @

Well, generally it takes about 2-3 years of ballet training before someone can consider pointe. (I’m 11 and not en pointe so don’t rely too much on my opinion 😉) but if you have the commitment to wait and work hard I think you’ll buy ur first pair of pointe shoes in no time! I hope I helped ya out!😄😉

  Quilla wrote @

Hi
I have done ballet for about a year and a half and was wondering how long until I can go en pointe, I know your probably going to say in three years or so but I have freakish turnout and ankle strength.I take two classes a week, one modern and one ballet.I do trapeze and can hang by my heels feet and toes easily, I can hold all my weight on one foot. I am eleven years old(twelve in two months) I am REALLY small for my age less than five feet and around sixty pounds but really strong I held my releve for six minutes for a contest at dance class, I would love feedback 🙂

  Lilli wrote @

hi Quilla, the best time is honestly determined by your dance teacher because at dance class your teacher is one of the people that knows you best. They will most likely know your range, and skill level. A year and a half is a decent time i have been dancing for that long too!:) If you have the requirements for pointe, ask your teacher and hope it goes well from there.
I am starting pointe in may/june 2013 and as i said before i have been dancing the same amount of time that you have been. I am 13. Good luck to you and i hope you have fun.
(sorry it was so lengthy)

  MGL wrote @

Hey! My teacher said if I square my shoulders better and work on my back and core strength, I can be on pointe in 2 weeks. Are there any exercises you recommend?

  quilla wrote @

For core strenghth choose a few of these things to do:

SIT UPS

HOLLOW BODYS
(lie on your back, than raise your legs and shoulders about 6 inchs off the ground, HOLD IT)

LOW PLANKS
( lie on your stomach, put your hands in a fist just under your chin,so your elbos are back by your ribs, than push up into a plank)

PIKE UPS
( if you have access to a pull up bar, just hang from the bar, but extend your legs straight in front of you)

For square shoulders:
Thinks about keeping you chin up and your shoulders back

  MGL wrote @

Thanks! Those exercises really work! I could feel it.

Ask your teacher about what thery think you need to work on, always strech, do lots of releves eleves and leg lifts, those will help.
A few comments above, I listed a few things that will help improve core strength, which is a have to en pointe.
I am almost twelve, and looking to go en pointe soon, my teacher said about a month 🙂

Hi I am Meredith and I am 12 years old. I have been doing ballet ever since I was 3. My arches are okay, but I am flexible everywhere else. I am pretty strong and I don’t sickle or wing. My teacher said that they would be telling people whether or not we would be going en pointe. I have wanted this all my life and I want to know if there is a way I can test myself. I take 3 classes a week and I have been taking pre pointe classes for about half a year. Also, are there any specific things I have to have to be able to go en pointe? Are demi pointe shoes good for strengthening? What do they do?

  Quilla wrote @

for pointe you need to be able to:

have strong almost 90 degree arches

good technic

your good with ballet training time

You have to be supre commited, and not get sad if your not en pointe, just try harder

flexibility and strength in the feet are essential

Core strength is needed to keep yourself straight, square shoulders always help

I posted a comment a few days ago about core condittioning

Hope it helps!

I think I have a prodigy! My 6 year old daughter has been in ballet for a little over a year. She has always walked on her toes (Not her tiptoes, but the very tip of her toes! Even in regular shoes!) and she was playing around with a pair of pointe shoes, and her dance teacher tied them on her feet, and she stood straight up, started walking around, and even did a pirouette… at the age of 6! She has her teachers and her school instructor flabbergasted! How do I know if she is honestly ready?

  Karstyn wrote @

I think she should take pre-pointe I ballet shoes until she’s about 8 then she maybe could try Demi-pointes for a couple more years and then I think she’ll really be ready. Hope I helped! 😀

  Quilla wrote @

The bones in her feet are most likly not fully developed, so she could risk hurting her feet, I would put her on pointe until age 10 at the least, but she could be in pre-pointe. I am supposed to get my pointe shoes in a month, and I am 12, almost a six year differance

  Quilla wrote @

Are other girls in your class going en pointe, that is usually the best time to ask. Also, you can look up the requierments for pointe, so you know just what you need to be able to do.
As long as your tall, 105 lbs isn’t too heavy. I am the same age and way 63lbs, but I am REALLY short, like 58in

Good luck!

Hi my name is Piper and I would love to go en pointe. I have been dancing since I was two, I started taking ballet classes since I was five, ballet is my life and I dance around my house all the time. I’m in level 6 at my ballet studio. (Each level has two levels: AB, CD and so on) My teacher says I have improved greatly over the past year and a half. I think that I am ready for pointe work. I dance for about six hours a week and am taking a pre pointe class combined with my regular technique class. At my ballet studio everybody has to be fourteen to sixteen before you are able to go en pointe. Both me and my mother think that is absurd. But my ballet instructor thinks that sixteen is the premium age. So I need some help to ask my teacher about it. Also the rest of my ballet group is going en pointe and most of them are nine or ten. Please help? Also I am eleven.

  MGL wrote @

I’m eleven, too. You can ask your doctor or even parent or guardian if you have developed calves and feet, a big sign that you’re ready for point work, and if they say that you do, then you can go and say politely, “Excuse me, but do you think I;m ready for pointe?” Don’t pester your instructor about it, she/he would get really mad, but ask her. Also, make sure you have good upper body strength and turn-out, too, because that will help. Be prepared-pointe is painful-but you’ll love it. I jut got my pointe shoes today and I already feel on cloud nine!!!

  Quilla wrote @

Its very possible your teacher might just say yes, and not get mad. I asked my teacher and she just smile and said in 2 months, I am so excited

  Jillian wrote @

I’m 12 years old. I started seriously dancing this year and I just started taking ballet. My teacher said I have an almost perfect turn out and I really want to go on pointe as soon as possible. Are there any excersises I can do to strengthen my ankles and technique? Links to websites would be awesome!

  MGL wrote @

Well, you could stay on demi-pointe (some dance schools called it relavae) for sometime and just work on being able to hold it. If your dance studio provides
pre-pointe classes, make sure you take those. Make sure you stretch out your calves, and then when your in ballet class work on squeezing your calf muscles tight, but not too tight because you could hurt yourself, but just enough so that your dance instructor can see if your muscles and if you are anywhere near ready for pointe work. Also, you need to have good upper body and arm strength. You also need to be able to tuck your behind under and your stomach in because it’s easier to balance that way. Good luck!

  MGL wrote @

I live in Florida. I wouldn’t go on pointe in your friends shoes because they might not be the right fit so then you would damage your feet, and I would wait until your instructor gives the O.K. My dance teacher said that instead of pre-pointe, she’d give us a lesson on sewing your pointe shoes. She’s so nice. It’s really fun. In a poetic way, I say, “It’s as if, if only for a fraction of a second, you could do anything you set not just your mind, but also your heart to. Go ballet!!!

  MGL wrote @

16! That’s crazy! 16 is way too old. I’m 11, too, and I just got my pointe shoes! I would tell an adult or something and then they could talk to the owner about this girl because that is not right! Oh, and happy early birthday.

  Quilla wrote @

Oh, Thanks.
Im going to start taking pointe at another school along with my current one

  MGL wrote @

That’s cool. Is it really cold up there in Maine? It’s pretty cold down here, but I’m guessing our coldest day is your average summer day, right? Do you have to sew your own pointe shoes there? We have to. And now that I’m sewing my own pointe shoes, I’m learning how to sew my normal ballet shoes, too. It’ll call for quicker and more accurate pointe shoe sewing than asking one of my past teachers to.

  Quilla wrote @

Its about 30 or so here. Is it harrd to sew your own pointe shoes, we don’t have to until next week

  MGL wrote @

I’m sewing them tomorrow. So you got them? I thought you said you couldn’t until you were 16.

Hey guys. I asked my teacher if she lets any one in my level on pointe and she said no! I was so sad. But I might go up a level this summer and get en pointe! I really hope I do. If I do I want to audition for ABT’s summer intensive or even SAB’s! But I’ll probably know when I get on pointe in the summer. I can’t wait!

  Alexa wrote @

Also the other girls all go en pointe usually at the same time and I don’t think it’s right to have all the girls on at the same time especially since some of their feet aren’t fully developed.

  MGL wrote @

Alexa: Yeah, I felt the same way too, earlier in the year. I got my pointe shoes just recently, and my dance teacher said that it’s everyone or no one. Thankfully we were all ready, and we all got on pointe, but I was so nervous! I just got on pointe a few weeks ago, and I was told in about November all that, so I’d be patient. We’ve all been in your position!!! Oh, and I have a best friend named Alexa.

  Quilla wrote @

MLG: I joined the other dance school, so I have them at one place, not the other.I havent danced in them yet though

  MGL wrote @

Quilla: That’s awesome! I’m so happy for you! Oh and I’m MGL, not MLG. Is Quilla your first name?

  Alexa wrote @

I love one of my teachers but the other one seems to always find something wrong with what I’m doing and it kinda gets me frustrated because she is the co-owner of my studio.

  MGL wrote @

Alexa: You know what that means, right? Welcome to the family! If your ballet instructor thought you were bad and didn’t care about ballet, then she would pay no attention to you. If she thought you were average, she’d be congratulating you on your efforts and telling you “good job” in class. But when she calls you out like that, that means she really likes you and thinks you are one of the best dancers in your studio at that age range. It might not seem like that at first, but it’s true. Trust me, I was in your position too, and I got a special part in the recital dance. It also means that she’s pushing your limits to see how good of a dancer you could be, correcting the slightest arch of the back, the sliver of not enough plie. Just wait. Your dance teacher might be trying to see if you’re ready for pointe. She will show she thinks you’re the best in a matter of time. Good luck on your dance career, girl! You seem to be turning out as a good ballet dancer by the way your dance teacher does that.

Hello, I am a ballet dancer and have been dancing for four years now. I am 11 years old and I take dance classes for 2 hours, 2 times a week. I am in 6th grade and this year my dance studio lets all 6th graders go en pointe. I went to the doctor and she asked about dance. i told her i was going en pointe. she said you cant go en pointe until you have your period. I havent had mine yet. Is this true. Where can I go to get a pointe test?

-Matigan

  Paige wrote @

Hi Matigan
You do not have to have to have your period to go en pointe. What really matters is the strength in your legs and feet and if the growth plates in your feet have started to fuse. This generally happens at about twelve, so I think your ready for pointe! Have fun!

  Rose wrote @

How old are the ret of the student in your ballet class? Levels often differ from scho to school. You should ask your instructor when you might be able to go en pointe. But first, you might want to take into consideration a few questions: how strong are my feet? How strong are my ankles? Can I stretch my knees fully? How is my pointe? Is my core strong? These are all the most important questions one can ask themselves before going en pointe. Keep strengthening and be sure to ask your instructor about pointe work! Maybe you can take a few private lessons a month to make sure you can do some advanced work outside of level two. Good luck Paige!

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but I figured I could try…. I’m going to college next year and I want to take some introductory ballet classes. I haven’t done ballet before but I’ve been an Irish dancer for 9 years so my feet and ankles are very strong. I have done Irish pointe work and I can also hold releve for over two minutes. Do you think I could go en pointe in an introductory course or is that not a thing they teach?

Lily,
I don’t think you could go en pointe because you are taking an intoductory class you might be strong enough fro Irish pointe but you are taking an introductory class and pointe is not taught in that class. Good luck!

Hiya everyone,
My name is Hannah, I’m 11 years old (12 in 3 months) and I’ve been dancing since I was 4. I currently do 2hrs 15mins of ballet and 1hr 30mins of modern/tap per week. My dance teacher emailed everyone the timetable for september a few weeks ago and me and my friend were both ECSTATIC when we found out we would be taking pointe prep classes for half an hour each week! She asked my dance teacher how long it would be until we go en pointe and she said ‘fairly soon’ how long is fairly soon?! Anyway, my friend is REALLY strong, especially in her calves and ankles. I asked her how she does it and she doesn’t know. I guess it’s just because she was built that way and she works hard. I am trying to get stronger for pointe so that after pointe prep I can go en pointe ASAP. I try to do over 50 relevaes (sorry ’bout the spelling) every night and sometimes walk around on tiptoe and pointe my feet whenever I can to help with my arch. I was just wondering, is there’s anything else I could do to strengthen me for pointe? Please help!
Hannah xxx (sorry it’s so long)

  Macy Pelkington wrote @

Hannah-
Something that would help alot would be to purchase a theraband, the can be bought online or at dance or exercise stores. Do single footed releves or hold a single footed releve for five minutes (youll muscules will be yelling, but its worth it).You can also do lots of jumps (1st to 2nd, ect.), but really focus on keeping a VERY small plie, that will make your calves and feet work more.Make sure you work through you point, flex-releve-point in the air, this will also help with muscle control. I can give any other tips you need, but this is a start!
Macy Pelkington

  Hannah wrote @

Thanks Macy!
I am going to order a theraband soon and I have online but I’m not really sure what colour/strength to get – what would you recommend? I have tried the single footed relevaes and will definitely try the 5 minute ones. I am also going to try and work at my jumps a bit more like you suggested. Thanks again for your help!
Hannah

  Macy Pelkington wrote @

Hannah-
For the theraband get one medium-hard in strength, if your going on pointe your feet will be strong enough for a tougher one. I would suggest a blue or black one. Do lots of stretches with this even just pointing your toes (the slower the better). You can look up alot more exercises for therabands on youtube and stuff. Anything else you need help with I can answer! Oh, and also, if you want to strengthen your ankles alot more you can purchase ankle weights online(i suggest 2-3 pounds) just wear them around and your feet will strengthen without you even knowing!

Julia,
I don’t know when you will go en pointe, but probably when your 12 or 13. If you go up earlier, you may damage the not yet grown bones in your feet. It is good that your feet are strong, but don’t dance in another’s pointe shoe. Pointe shoes are very certain to a dancers needs, and you could ruin the bones in your foot.

I would really like to get en pointe before I gratuate but we have a new and very strict teacher this year. I might be ready at the end of this year but what would I tell the teacher in order for her to even consider me to go en pointe? Any help is much appreciated! ❤

Ask her what you can work on before you go en pointe, this will let her know you are interested and she will give you tips. Are any other girls going en pointe soon? She most likely wont let only one person go on at one time, teachers wait until the whole class is ready or at least 4-5 girls. Do a lot at home, and get even stronger! Also, you can try to use ankle weights, you can read about them online.

Hi, my name is Kaylie. This isn’t going to be a long comment, and I know I’m not ready for point because no one else my age (10-11) are on point yet. My question is, though, is for my feet. My feet are very strong, but I have a bit of a strained muscle in the middle of my foot. And my feet are always hurting after dance class. (I take lots of classes, so maybe that’s why) So my question is will I ever be ready for point? And will it make my feet even worse and cause bad medical problems?

  Macy Pelkington wrote @

You will be on pointe some day if you persue dance. It may take longer though.
My feet used to hurt after dance too. I Know something that usually helps with your sore foot muscles.

1) Find a tennis ball or something round and about that size.
2) Put it on the floor
3) Put your foot on it and roll it around, pressing into with your foot and keeping around the part thats sore.
This always helped me!

Your teacher will take you to get your feet fitted for pointe shoes.
The person fitting you will know the best brand of pointe shoes for you. For instance, Bloch has shorter pointe shoes that are wider, where as Capezio has long stream lined shoes for longer feet.
The fitter will tell you the best brand.

Ally,
You will probably not go en pointe it you have started ballet for only 6 months, even though you’ve danced modern a long time. Ballet is so different from modern that it will take you a little while to get used to it. Most girls that go en pointe have been doing ballet for years. I would also advise to not go en pointe in your flats because you could break or injure something.

  Rose wrote @

Ok Hailey, first of all…it’s great that you’re so passionate about dance! But I suggest that you ask your teacher and parents to schedule at least one more class for you a week. Two days a week isn’t quite enough hours to stay consistent with pointe. Also, I think you should talk to your teacher about some Pre-pointe exercises. So even if you can’t go on pointe yet you’re definitely working towards it. And don’t feel bad about not being on pointe yet, if you’ve only been dancing for a couple years there’s no rush to get up so fast. Everyone has their own pace. Sometimes the best dancers don’t go en pointe until they’re like 15 or so. So basically, don’t rush. Keep trying consistently and working hard and you’ll definitely get there. As for some exercises, a really good one is to just walk on your three-quarter pointe whenever you have the chance. It will strengthen your feet and ankles. Also, practice tolling through your arches and stretching them. Another good and simple exercise is just to slowly roll up from flat floor to Demi pointe and back. And keep doing that. Good luck hailey, tell me how it goes!

I’m 13 now and my mom let me take some weekend classes at the Atlanta Ballet. The jazz teacher also teaches at the performing arts school in Atlanta the my mom would like me to attend. He said I am a very good dancer but need more pointe and ballet training my dad aggrees I have no idea how I’ll fit it into my schedule even though I’ve reduced it to 20 hrs a week (including weekends) because I also cheer for an all-star cheer team in douglasville. It’s awesome that you’re ready for pointe! I am in the same boat but from doing research I found out you shouldn’t start pointe on your own because you could develop bad habits that could take years to fix. Also you could damage your feet while they are still growing (if they are) and might not be able to dance again. If you really want to teach yourself, you should still talk to your dance instructor and get her (or his) opinion before trying anything that could damage your feet on your own time. The best thing to do is to just ask your teacher if you are ready for pointe and if she says no, ask her what you’ll have to do to become ready. Hope this helps! And good luck!

Hi my name is Amanda
I have been doing ballet for 1 and a half years. ive done contempary for 2 years. I really want to do pointe. I have a very high arch on my foot and my ankles are quite strong. I have been told I have one of the most arched feet In the whole ballet school. ive got a problem though, I have pre mature bunyens on my feet. (runs in the family -.-) but I don’t think that pointe shoes would do that any harm whatsoever. Do you think im ready or nah

  Rose wrote @

Can you go en pointe in these shoes? Just a releve? Because the picture says you can…are they good for beginners?

You cannot go en pointe in those shoes. That picture is misleading. They are the equivalent of “soft” or “cannibalised” pointe shoes and are only suitable for doing work off pointe. They can be good for beginners before pointe in the sense that you have to work a lot harder through the box to point your foot and so can strengthen them. A lot of dancers turn their old pointe shoes into soft pointes to dance in when they are not en pointe.

Thank you, I thought the picture was a little off!

Hi Olivia my name is Marie and I’m also a ballet instructor from Michigan I think that if you have just recently got back into ballet I would hold it off about a year or so to improve the growing of your feet and toes.
GOOD STRETCHES FOR POINTE
point and flex, and standing on steps with your heals hanging off the end will give you more strength in your calf’s and make it easyer to go on the top of your toes and will getting you used to all of the weight on your toes

Hey my name is Paul although Paul is really not my name i wish i can tell you my really name but i don’t think it will be wise to do that. I have a big happy family my wife with my two boys. They are my all and all in this world. My miserable life would have be over a long time ago if not for them and my wife is the most, let me just say that she is wonderful. Like very marriage we always had our own problems she wanted me to be always around her and the kids but i work at the embassy. It so hard to avoid coming home late and living very early first thing in the morning i though she understood that. Quitting was not an option cos i love what i do and more over my pay is really beautiful. To an extent i lead my marriage into the problem we found ourselves i should have tried harder i should have not assumed that all was well when all indication showed that they weren’t. Honestly i owe my happiness and improved marriage life to Metod Acamu a spell caster that help get my wife back cos she was on the verge of leaving for another guy a fashion photographer. Now that i am thinking of it, she left me for the guy she was with him for months before metodo helped me with the spell that brought her back to me and my boys. I use to think money makes every woman stay but no she in are awesome nature proved me wrong. All she wanted was to be loved just as how she loved me and i failed. All those while i was at work all day long, she felt too lonely that she fell into the arms of the photographer. Her mind was made up she wanted a new life with the guy she was sure he would give to her all i could not give her. Every thing happened all of a sudden that i didn’t get a chance to try and fight for her she just left. I was glad she left my boys with me and was not going to war for custody of them at least it was way too early for that. For months i thought that i could leave without her as long as my boys were with me but we missed her mostly me. I never needed anybody the way i was in need of my wife to return back to me. We still talked during our short separation but each time i bring about us as a topic she always find an excuse to end everything. Honestly i don’t know if she was mad at me or she was no longer in love with me anymore. As scared as i was to loss her, i took a step to contact Metodo Acamu to help me get her back. I first heard about him on the internet there were quite a number of comment about him on blogs and even on Facebook so he just seemed like the perfect person to help me out with my problem at that moment in time and just as i thought , he was the right person. You may not all agree with my method but when you really desperate you can go to any length to get what you want. That was pretty much were i stood at that point in time. Metodo was wonder with me, he promised he was going to help me get her back and he did just that for me he was candid with me. He made it clear to me that he does not charge for anything he only need the materials he listed for me to get to enable him get the spell done and also told me it was almost going to be impossible for me to get the materials. Like he said the materials are not that way to force us to pay anything there are just want is needed and also you can bring the materials to his temple yourself or get the materials ever you are and mail them down to him or like me give him he money to get them which i promise you is less expensive and more stress free. All this happened few months back but now, my family is back together and we are happy just as we were before. You can also read all other comment on the internet about and how Metodo Has helped a lot of people. This was not written to make you contact him by force it just to share with whoever cares to read how i got back together with my wife and family but if you must contact him use this email { metodoacamufortressx at yahoo dot com } use this email in the standard email form. I kept it this way to enable comment here

Hi I’m Abby. My teacher told me and two of my friends that we were ready to start Pointe classes in Christmas time. I lead worship at church and one of the classes that I was being required to take was on a Wednesday night and I wasn’t about to put dance before God. I have been taking demi pointe classes online since then, and I am almost completely through with all the lessons and its almost Christmastime. My parents are considering getting me pointe shoes for Christmas. Is this a bad decision? Should I do pointe on my own. I can go to my studio in off hours and do pointe there its just that my teacher is kind of a jerk about the whole situation and I don’t want to ask her so I came to you! Im 14 btw….

  Izzyb wrote @

I had almost the same problem, a few years ago I was supposed to be in one class while it was during the wednesday night church service. We finally decided that I should just stay behind one more year to practice and perfect my technique. It all worked out in the end though. I am just starting pointe in a few days and I have perfect technique. See how god works in funny ways? I am praying for you that you make the right decision.

I am going en pointe tomorrow but don’t know if I’m ready, my dance teacher says i have beautiful form, and beautiful legs, that never stray where they shouldn’t be, but i think i weigh too much, i am 5,3 and weigh 111 pounds, i am very skinny, but wide, and i only have “a 4 pack” while others have so much more mucle in their abdomens.

  Kay wrote @

Your weight has no bearing on your ability to go en pointe (and you sound to me to be quite a healthy weight). As long as your technique is good enough and your legs are strong enough then you are ready. Good luck and have fun

  Izzyb wrote @

Hi, my name is izzyb. I have been taking classical ballet classes for 8 years now, I am twelve years old and my ankles are very strong. Just recently, my teacher had me use her new pointe shoes and I took a lesson en pointe because we share the same shoe size. I have been dreaming of going en pointe since before I started ballet (when I was four). It was all quite surreal. My teacher has now instructed me to get my own pair if pointe shoes so I can practice my technique. I am very excited and I just want to tell anyone who has been aspiring to be en pointe since they were a kid, the day will come when your teacher is to say that your ready to be en pointe very soon, and unexpectedly. But until then, work your hardest.

Hello, I need some help. My daughter has been dancing since she was four years old. She just turned 10, three months ago. She takes jazz, contemporary, and ballet. She dances about 15 hours a week. I should also mention that she is the youngest in all her classes. She just had her yearly evaluate done and she was promoted to point. I’m concerned about her feet. Yes she is a very strong dancer but I’m still thinking its a little soon for point. Should I just trust the teachers? Her teachers are highly trained. They were also professional dancers. Please help.

  Rose wrote @

No one should go en pointe yet until the bones in her feet are done growing. It doesn’t matter how technically ready the dancer is. Years ago even the best trained ballerinas and teachers put students en pointe starting at age 8 or even 7. Now we know that going en pointe too early causes major damage to bones that aren’t done growing. It is much safer if she goes en pointe when she’s 11 or definitely by 12 she could. In the mean time she can further perfect her technique, especially balance and work on pre-pointe exercises. Hope that helped!
I’m 15 and have just started pointe but the other girls in my class started at age 11 or 12. Some 13. But I’ve done lots of research and talked to people about this!

Hi my name is tahlia and I am 15. I started dancing last year and I now dance contemporary/ lyrical and jazz. I am in love with ballet and all the girls in my contemporary class are en pointe (as of a week ago).

I am overweight (about 90kg) and I am quite tall. I have quite strong calls and thigh muscles and was wondering if it was possible for me to get en pointe by next year.
Thanks.

Hi, I’m 15 and I am a beginning dancer. My friend who has been doing pointe for a long time let me try on her shoes (yes I know this is bad please don’t give me hate) and I was easily balancing on them, hitting the positions easily, getting over the box onto releve like nothing, and doing simple moves on them. My ankles and toes are very strong, and I have high arches and good flexiblility. My question is, how long do you think it’d take if I started ballet classes now to try and get en pointe? Thanks lots! 😊

Hi, my name is Emily, I am 13 years old and I am actually starting ballet this August. I have wanted to go on pointe because the people I will be with are already on pointe. Before this I was a gymnast for 4 year so I’ve been on releve a lot and I have good balance and strong balls of my toes. My pointe are really good. How long do you think it would take my to go on pointe?

  Bella wrote @

Hi my name is Bella and I’m 13.
I started ballet this year in January I think. My teacher started me on grade 4 and I’m doing well I have relatively strong ankles and I have abs from doing acrobatics ( I started acro in July I can’t do the splits yet though😭😂). I’m really nervous and anxious to ask my teacher to go en pointe because my whole class is en pointe and I am the youngest in my class. I’m really scared and worried I won’t get en pointe until I’m 15/16 and I really want to get en pointe next year do you think that would be possible? Also if I get cramps in my feet and ankles does that mean I am not strong enough yet for pointe.
Pleaseeeeee help me in desperate to get en pointe.

Don’t worry, Everyone in my class is one pointe and im also the youngest at age 11, It will happen eventually, give it some time, do exercises to help everyday for 30 minutes, I have been doing it for an hour everyday for about a year and it helped so much

Hope this helped you

You are around the right age, although some may believe otherwise. Right ages are usually around 11-12+ I think you should ask your ballet teacher, although you should have at least 2 years of proper ballet training before going en pointe. But see what your teacher thinks. Good Luck!

  Rachel wrote @

I have about the same story. I’m the oldest and I know the other girls aren’t ready for pointe. The teachers will advance you without the other girls.

Hi! quick question. I’ve been doing ballet for 10 years now, and I still am not allowed on pointe. My teacher is always telling me about my superb strength in classes. I always try my hardest and work everything correctly. I’m just confused. I’m 13. What have I done wrong? I’ve never quit ANY ballet classes…

  Autumn wrote @

I have been dancing almost ten years now (I just turned 14) and when I started my teacher said that we were not allowed to use pointe show until we were fourteen because she didn’t want us to damage our feet. Although most people start around 12 I think it is better to wait. The place I dance doesn’t have pointe but we do a lot of strengthening exercises. I can Stay on relevé for at least a minute and my ankles are really strong. I have a relatively strong core too. I also have a very good turnout and my foot is really flexible. I don’t have my splits yet but I am really working on them and I almost have my right split. I just want an opinion about if I would be ready for pointe.

The teachers can be strict. But most of the time they are nice. Ballet is a strict sport. You’ll be fine though. Trust me.

Hi I am Carys and I am 12 years old. I have been doing ballet for 10 years other than a break from 4-6th grade but I kept my teqnique and strength I have just needed my flexibility now that I have been starting back doing ballet frequently. It has been my dream in my life to be en pointe and of course to become a professional one day. My ballet teacher said I am close to getting my pointe shoes, but I am getting so anxious about it. I have good strength because I am average sized and slightly curvy so I was born with non weak ankles, I have hyperextended joints but I am good at balancing after corrections. I have high arches and they are flexible, and I work on a daily with a theraband because I want to be en pointe SOOOOO badly. What do you think my teacher wants from me??? I am so anxious, please help.

I’ve been doing ballet for 8 years now and I’m pretty advanced. I’m 13 but I haven’t fully grown yet (according to my friends , I have the body of a 10 year old!) My feet are also EXTREMELY small (size 2.5) and they haven’t fully grown either. My teacher thinks I have potential to do it but I’ve read things saying that that girls shouldn’t start pointe too early or it could damage their feet. Please help , I don’t know what to do!

( Please can I get a reply soon because my teacher says that if i’m starting , it will be straight after christmas!)

Thanks!<3

Hi I’m wondering if I’m ready for a pointe class because when I was younger like 4-9 years old. I took ballet and then I tried different dance classes and now this year I’m back in ballet and have very good strength, it’s just my balance. So I was wondering should I take an advanced ballet class or go to a pre-pointe class and see what that instructor thinks. I’m 18 years old now and I’m not sure what to do. I would love some help.
Thank you.
